About SUDEP Aware

About Us

SUDEP Aware is a Canadian charity, founded in 2008 and run by dedicated volunteers based in Toronto.

Our mission is to promote knowledge and understanding of Sudden, Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) through:

EDUCATION
of professional and lay communities to enhance SUDEP awareness and ensure early, accurate identification of SUDEP deaths.
RESEARCH
to understand the causes, risk factors and possible prevention strategies for SUDEP.
SUPPORT
for those affected by SUDEP, via collaboration with support agencies, other families and health care professionals.

Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at University of Toronto
President of the Canadian Pediatric Epilepsy Network (CPEN)
Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian League Against Epilepsy (CLAE)
Member of the Partners Against Mortality in Epilepsy (PAME) Steering Committee
Reported on the largest cohort of paediatric SUDEP cases whilst investigating SUDEP in children in Ontario, in 2001
